How Precision Tork works hand in hand with our clients to help facilitate their needs.
All bottling companies run into issues with their cappers once in a while. That is just part of life at a bottling plant. Usually you can resolve the issue yourself with some changes to the machine alignment, environment of the storage for the bottles/caps, or even the bottles/caps themselves. But when the cost of these problems is adding up and you aren’t sure what needs to be done or just don’t have the right equipment, Precision Tork located in Michigan will be able to step in and get you back on track. A top customer of ours, Langlade Springs in Wisconsin, is just one example of this in action.
How out 25 years of bottle capping experience helped Langlade Springs:
Langlade Springs is a manufacturer of premium natural mineral spring water called Northern Chill. They were founded in 2006 and are located in Polar, Wisconsin. Langlade Springs was having issues with a few things on their capper. There was an unacceptable amount of cocked caps, damaged caps, bottle shavings, and inconsistent removal torque. These issues were cutting into their efficiency and product quality. Many hours were spent trying to resolve these issues in-house but none of their solutions were able to get them where they wanted to be. To address this, the CEO of Langlade Springs, Curt Kufner, made the decision to call for outside help. He had his team reach out to Precision Tork located in Midland, MI.
Precision Tork has been in the bottle capping business for over 25 years. Our team of experts have seen it all. So as soon as Curt’s team explained the situation, they quickly got to the root cause of their problems. It turned out that the headsets and chucks on their machine were from the stone age! The heads did technically function but were so out of date no one could expect to get a desirable performance out of them. Many of the top loads were completely seized up which resulted in a top load force so great that it caused some of the caps to have white rings on them from the pressure. The clutch magnet packs were very degraded, so it was impossible to achieve a consistent cap removal torque.
Precision Tork’s team of experts immediately got to work. Our engineers worked with the team at Langlade Springs to design a new model that would deliver a controlled top load force to eliminate the white ring. It would also feature smooth torque technology to provide a more consistent application torque and therefore a more consistent removal torque. The design would also include our signature lifetime sealed magnets that never need to be replaced. All of these features would be provided in a design that is a drop-in replacement. No adjustments to the machine would be required to run these new heads.
To make sure Langlade Springs was getting the most bang for their buck the owner of Precision Tork, Mike Scott, drove to Wisconsin in the middle of a snow storm to oversee the installation. Once there, he was able to see their capper in action. Seeing the capper in action allowed him to suggest additional adjustments to their capper to further optimize their capping process. These adjustments significantly reduced the amount of cocked caps coming out of the line. By the end of the trip, with the installation of the new equipment and capper adjustments that were made, all of the issues that had been discussed with Precision Tork at the outset were eliminated. After 2 years of run time, the headsets are still running well and have not yet required any rebuild or maintenance parts.
Our Customers are our Top Priority!
“Mike and the team and Precision Tork did a great job. We first contacted them over the phone and set up an assessment site visit to show them the issues we were having and a few weeks later, upon his return with the new capping unit, the install was completed in one day. The result was excellent. Prior to the new installation we were experiencing cocked/crocked caps and erratic over tightening due to worn out equipment. Immediately after the install those issues were gone and we’ve had no issues ever since. That was over a year ago. Thank you to Mike and the team at Precision Tork!” – Curt Kufner – CEO
