Precision Tork’s Visit to Ferris State University Was A Success
Precision Tork is so glad that we had the opportunity to visit Ferris State University last week. Speaking with everyone who stopped by was a blast. We are looking for a couple mechanical engineers right now, so we will be reaching out to some of you who stopped by. We want to thank Michele Albright and all of the other administrative staff and students, who put this amazing event together for students and employers.
Precision Tork is a small company that sells aftermarket capping products. These products are used in facilities such as Coke or Pepsi bottling plants. The purpose of these products is to secure or assist securing the bottle cap onto a bottle. The bottle being capped is the plastic container you might get out of a vending machine or out of the fridge at a gas station. It sounds simple, but there are many variables involved and our product has to provide a reliable output at high speed.
What To Expect In the Bottle Capping Industry
In bottle capping, it is important to secure the cap onto the bottle with an appropriate amount of torque. Too much torque can result in an annoyed customer who can’t open the bottle and drink the item they just bought. Too little torque can result in safety issues when the contents of the bottle become contaminated. So, our products, made in Michigan, need to provide a happy medium between these two extremes. This is just scratching the surface of the industry you will be in but we at Precision Tork hope that gives you a general idea of what we are about
As a small company, there is a lot of variety for the people working here. We face many tasks/problems every day and we don’t have large pools of specialized teams to deal with each one. So to engineers this will look like one day working on a new design for a customer (capping chuck, magnetic capping headset, or various bottle capping parts), another day diagnosing an issue a customer is having in their plant, and then a third day working on a new fixture to help the assembly team. Please don’t assume every day is going to be the same!
Another benefit of working at a small company is seeing the results of your work. As an engineer, your design will be manufactured right outside your door in our machine shop. The machine shop will take your design and turn it into a tangible, stainless steel product to ship out to our customer. Once you have inspected and approved the final product, it is shipped out to our customer. It is rare, but if there are any issues, the engineer will be involved in the problem solving process. How exciting is that? When working here, it will be easy to see the results of your work and every position has an impact on every customer Precision Tork has.
